After July 11th 2011, APOP, a protocol used by your local email client to retrieve email from servers is now no longer supported.
We contacted a small group of our customers who currently use APOP in the run up to this change, and hope that anyone using APOP will have now successfully altered their settings. If you’ve been contacted and still need to update your email settings, then read on to find out how….
Why is APOP no longer supported?
APOP requires that your email password is stored locally in a method that does not provide you with the right level of security. We’re investing heavily in our email platform and to upgrade our storage devices, we require that all customers operate at the same high levels of security.
HELP! – I have not been receiving my emails!
If your local email client is currently configured to retrieve emails by APOP, you may have noticed that you are unable to receive emails and are URGENTLY required to update your email client settings.
Updating settings in email clients such as Outlook, Thunderbird, Windows Mail, Mac Mail, Eudora and Apple Mail is very simple; we have created step-by-step guides showing you exactly what you need to do.
What do I need to do?
All you need to do is change settings from APOP to either IMAP or POP3 on your local email client. Both these protocols allow you to manage your email in exactly the same way and the settings are changed in just a few clicks. Follow the instructions to also select the SSL option for security and maintain an encrypted connection.
If you have additional email users on your account, please ensure that they are made aware of this important change, to avoid service interruption.
