The end of 2011 saw strong e-retail figures in Europe as online sales across the continent rose 18 per cent with Germany, Switzerland and Norway seeing the highest online retail market shares.
Boxing Day 2011 was named the ‘biggest ever’ online shopping day, up 19.5% compared to 2010. For 2012 the latest study from Logan Tod & Co, suggests that 26 per cent of online shoppers are planning to spend even more money on the internet next December.
Kelkoo predicts a similar increase this year, well above the expected 3.65% rise in total retail sales, forecasting that cunsumers will satisfy their shopping urges online to the tune of £56.5bn. Furthermore, with a rise in the number of people using iPads, tablets and mobile phones to browse and make their online purchases, Ecommerce is going from strength to strength.

Visa Europe reported that ecommerce spending accounted for 22% of all Visa spend in the year ending 30th September 2011; growing by more than 40% over that year.
