We’ve listened to customer feedback and made dozens of changes and updates to give you the best experience possible from our WebMail facility. From minor bug fixes to some great new user-centric updates, you are sure to be impressed with the latest upgrade.

Our head of Development – Marcus Don said “WebMail 4.4 represents a coming of age for Register365’s newest email platform. The underlying software on which WebMail 4 is based – called Roundcube – has matured into a powerful application and, with the addition of the many features added by Register365, we now believe we have a truly industry-leading product.”

So what’s changed?

We have added the option to move your preview pane to the side (via User preferences => Mailbox view), which makes reading your emails so much easier, especially if you have a widescreen monitor.

The brand new address book features the ability to upload a photo for each contact and add as many fields of information as you need. All contacts created in WebMail 4.3 before 10thApril 2012 have already been imported into WebMail 4.4.

The contacts section also now contains a contact search and an improved import facility.

It is now much easier to compose an email if you are using a low resolution monitor; we’ve made the hide button in the header available across all brands, and reduced the size of the header fields and the footer to create more space.

As a result of customer feedback, we have removed the “remember me” facility from the login page and made it possible for your browser to remember your login credentials.

The “Recipients to contacts” feature has been refactored to resolve an issue whereby some users with this feature enabled were logged out of WebMail after sending an email to an unknown contact.

It is now possible to compose multiple messages simultaneously, perfect for those who like to multi-task.

The calendar has been updated to support multiple calendars and the ability to export calendar data.

Try new WebMail 4.4 by selecting from the dropdown list on the login page.

We’re keen to hear what you think, so once logged in you can get in touch by using the WebMail Feedback link.

Keep checking back for more updates on all of our products and services at blog.register365.com

Welcome to the second installment of our SiteMaker Basics Tutorials where we will show you how to Edit your Menus.

Menus can be repositioned through Page Master as explained in ‘SiteMaker: The Basics………..1. Adding your Site Name‘.

Now that you have settled on a new position for you menu, you may wish to rename the ‘tabs’ so that they relate to the type of website you are trying to create.

Click Pages on your editing toolbar and the ‘Page Management’ menu will appear on the left of your screen. Select Organise your pages.

‘Add and organise pages’ will appear. This dialog box will allow you to amend your page names, add a new page and also hide your pages.

In this example, I have renamed my pages and clicked Apply when finished.

Your new tab names will be displayed

If you wish to change the colour of your menu tabs, select Design from the toolbar and then Menu on the left side of the screen.

Select Button Colour from the ‘Item’ option.

This is the first in a series of tutorials that will highlight some of the basic functions of SiteMaker.

If you need any further help in the very first stages of getting started with your new SiteMaker website; you can follow our guide ‘Getting Started with SiteMaker’, from this you will have successfully chosen an appropriate template and have launched SiteMaker.

So lets get started editing your new SiteMaker website – our first tutorial will guide you through the first steps of adding your Site Name

The first thing to note is the editing toolbar across the top of the screen. It is this toolbar that will allow you to design a great looking site.

One of the first things you will want to do with your new website is to display your website name. To do this, double click the top section of your Home page.

A dialog box will appear stating that you will be accessing the Page Master. The Page Master is the area that will appear on every page of your site. Click Yes.

Double click the current site name to activate the ‘text box’. Delete current text and enter your new site name. You can also drag and position the text box elsewhere. Click Save.

Within the Page Master you can also pick up and reposition your menu. Click Save when you have finished.

If you’re interested in starting a web hosting business, you don’t have to run out right away and invest thousands of pounds in high-end Web servers, software and infrastructure. Your start in the business can come more quickly and inexpensively if you sign up as a reseller.

What’s a reseller? Just like the term suggests, it’s a business that resells the services of another hosting company under its own brand name. As a reseller, you can offer hosting services at prices of your own choosing, target specific markets that interest you most and add other options or services. Your customers don’t even have to know that you’re a reseller (although some resellers choose to be upfront about their status as a way to build customer trust). With our brandable Online Control Panel and WebMail, you can offer an individually tailored solution at no extra cost, which is perfect for resellers.

But why would someone choose to host with a reseller instead of a large international Hosting company?
Some smaller companies prefer hosting their Website with a one- or few-person operation where they know they can call up and ask for the owner by name. Others appreciate a reseller who can offer add-on services other hosts might not have; for example, writing services, custom Web graphics or public-relations services. And some customers like having a reseller host that understands their particular niche – whether it’s hosting for educational sites, women’s groups, not-for-profits, etc. So this can be the perfect time to provide a unique service to niche companies.

So what does it take to get started as a reseller? Understanding the basics of hosting technology – knowing the difference between Windows and Linux, for example, feeling comfortable with FTP (file transfer protocol) programs, and having a grasp of concepts like bandwidth, megabytes of storage and POP email – is essential. After all, you don’t want your top answer to customers to be, “I don’t know,” whenever they have a technical problem with their Websites (and, sooner or later, they all will).

Once you’re comfortable with the basics of hosting, make sure you develop a business plan so your reselling venture starts off with a solid foundation. Reselling web hosting is as real a business as any other, so the more research and work you put into it before launching, the better your odds of success.

How to get started:

Research web server providers. This will allow you to know what other resellers are doing, who provides the best web hosting packages and the web server companies that offer the best services. Research the best names for your reseller business. Select a name that says what your business does instantly.

Sign up for the hosting package of your choice; the package you choose will depend on your experience and size of your business – we offer a fantastic reseller hosting package with unlimited storage, email, multi domain hosting and FTP accounts, that will get you started. Plus we offer a re-brand-able control panel and email platform. Our PremierHost package enables you to manage multiple websites and clients with ease in a choice of Windows or Linux platforms on a per-domain basis.

Build your website with us to announce your web hosting reseller business. Website owners will sign up for your services and pay you through your website.

Invest in advertising and SEO (search engine optimisation) to make sure your online business can be found by the right customers for your service. At Register365 we also offer Advertising packages to suit you – so you can do everything in one place, with one provider making your life far easier.

Contact us today on 1890 944 500 to discuss your options and packages that are best for your new reseller business!

We have added an extra security feature to our Online Control Panel for all of our customer accounts in order to further protect you and your business.

It is unfortunately a known issue that certain countries have a higher prevalence for malicious traffic and so we have developed an extra security measure for our customers to help you limit the access to your account.

You are now able to limit the access to the country you are in, extend it to include countries you enter when on holiday

or even further narrow it down to white list by ip address for extra security and peace of mind.

We will soon be providing this feature on a per domain basis, however for now you are able to secure your Online Control Panel and all of your domains with one simple setting.

To find out more and view our support guide with feature tutorial click HERE.

FREE Ecommerce upgrades that will blow your socks off!

The latest version of our Ecommerce shop has now been released, with fantastic new features to save you time administering your online shop and to optimise the shopping process for your customers.

The new features and improvements are automatically available to our customers – and they’re completely free!

Want to find out what to expect from this long awaited upgrade? From Batch Processing to Interactive menus, read on to find out more….

1. Increase your conversion rate with the new, simplified check-out process
Guiding your customers quickly and easily through the checkout process is one of the secrets of success for profitable business online. With the new, simplified check-out process, your customers’ progress through the payment process is made easier than ever before.

Your customer will swiftly be guided through the entire process; from the order confirmation, to entering their address, to the actual payment process. Say goodbye to abandoned shopping carts!

2. Quick batch processing – complete tasks in one simplified step in the back office
Our new batch processing feature cuts the time you need to spend administering information in your online shop: in just one step, you can now edit large volumes of data records. Whether it’s creating and printing invoices or assigning customers to newsletter campaigns – the new batch processing tool will help you quickly take care of these tasks whilst keeping an overview of the actions you can perform with the selected data.

3. Interactive menus comfortably guide your customers through your Ecommerce shop
With the help of the new interactive menus, it’s even faster for your customers to find what they’re looking for. By rolling the mouse over the menus, they will see all the additional levels of each category – no further clicks are necessary. This tool will help your customers to get an overview of your online shop in a matter of seconds. Ideally a ‘fast find’ will lead to a quick purchase!

4. Save precious time administering your Ecommerce shop by using Inline editing.
Maintenance of your inventory will be faster and easier than ever, thanks to the new Inline editing tool. If you want to change the number of goods in stock, or the price of a product, you can now do it directly in the product overview. All the changes will automatically be applied, so that in future you no longer need to change each individual setting in the submenus – saving you valuable time.

5. SEO Cockpit (for Professional, Premium and Platinum customers) – Leads you to the top results in all search engines
Search engine optimization is vital to the success of a high-turnover online shop. However, to many online merchants SEO remains a mystery. The new SEO-Cockpit helps all merchants to optimize their search engine rankings, whatever their level of SEO understanding. Access to the SEO-Cockpit is in the back office of your Ecommerce shop.

The tool will display an SEO percentage for every page, to help guide you to the pages which need to be edited. A task list will also be generated, giving you specific suggestions on what to change. It’s a simple process – with only a few clicks, you can find the parts of your shop which need to be search-engine optimized.

PLUS here is an overview of a few more key features:

If you haven’t already taken a peek at our Facebook page, then now is the time to go and have a good look at the new Timeline design – not only because we are showing off the new look, but also because Facebook has recently changed all ‘Pages’ and if you don’t know about it already – you should check out the changes that you need to be aware of!

Facebook has transformed the look and feel of the traditional fan pages to be streamlined into the Facebook Timeline format. This change has been available for pages for the last month and became mandatory for all pages on Friday 30th March 2012.

According to VentureBeat, more than one million Facebook Pages are making the switch to the new Timeline design each day. But what are the biggest changes that the timeline poses for businesses and what are the benefits?

One of the most notable changes is the death of the ‘fangate’. The new Facebook timeline has eradicated the landing page (or welcome tab) from the business page and stripped social marketers of a much-used piece of functionality from their marketing repertoire meaning that businesses can no longer use this as a way to encourage “likes” to their page.

However as some mourn the loss of landing tabs, we have to look at the array of benefits the timeline brings to social marketers….

1. A big cover image – Pages can now leverage this large visual area to engage users with their brand. The purpose of your cover image is to create a powerful first impression that will convert. However be aware that your cover image can’t contain calls to action (like an arrow promoting visitors to ‘like this page’). It also can’t contain phone numbers or addresses that would otherwise be in the info section of your business profile.

2. Create Milestones - Milestones allow you to select any date in the past meaning you can create a full history for your company and fill in any blanks.

3. Focus on Photos – Facebook Pages are now much more about your visual story told over time, so it’s best to focus on telling that story through images photos and other visual content.

Plus with the option to highlight and pin your stories you can draw people’s attention to content that you really want them to see.

4. Larger tab space – Administrators have the ability to use a much wider canvas for the application – 810px wide in fact! That’s 250 more pixels of space for your content.

5. Private Messaging – Now people can contact you privately using messages. Notifications about new messages will appear right in your admin panel meaning criticisms and concerns can be addresses privately without them appearing on your wall.

6. New Administrator Panel – You can keep track of your activity on your page from the admin panel. Respond when people write on your page timeline, and view your latest insights.

PLUS coming soon Facebook will be rolling out Facebook Offers which can be created FREE of charge by business page admins and are only available to people who have already liked your business Facebook page – which is a great way to encourage fans and “likes”.

Love it or hate it, the Facebook Timeline for pages is here and if we embrace the multitude of positives we will see some great benefits to this drastic new change.

Tell us your thoughts on the Timeline below…

In November 2011 Nominet, the registry for .uk domains announced that .uk domain registrants will have the ability to register their domain names for up to 10 years starting on May 1, 2012.

This comes after .UK broke the 10 million registered domains barrier last month, making them the second largest ccTLD after .DE, which has 15million.

Flexibility and security
This groundbreaking change was made in order to offer more flexibility to domain registrants to allow longer periods of time between renewal dates. The development may also help curb “cybersquatting”, where a failure to renew a domain results leaves it at risk of being acquired by a third party and ransomed back to the original owner. Nominet states that 15% of non-renewed domain names are re-registered by someone else within one day and 7.5% are re-registered within 10 seconds.

“As soon as this happens, someone else will immediately receive all your web site traffic and the search engine rankings associated with your domain name.”

“The change in registration length will give businesses and individuals the opportunity to lock in their domains for up to ten years, giving them security of tenure and a longer period between renewals,” said Nominet and one year registrations will also be available. Previously, .uk domains could only be registered for 2 years.

Peace of Mind
Lesley Cowley, CEO of Nominet, said: “For millions of businesses, their domain name is mission critical – from their website to the email addresses it supports. By offering longer registration periods, these businesses will have peace of mind that their domain name is secured for a number of years, and they won’t have to worry about renewing so frequently.”

.UK is Britains Favourite
Preference for .uk domains remains strong in Britain, with 81% of those surveyed by Nominet in 2011, saying they prefer .uk sites when given the choice of a .uk or .com in search results. Amongst the reasons given were that it would be more likely to be a UK based company and have more relevance with prices in sterling and local cheaper delivery charges.

In Q4 2011 Nominet (the .UK registry), released figures showing that .uk registrations grew by 10.5% over the past 12 months and .uk maintains its position as the world’s second largest country code registry.

A .UK name is a valuable asset to have – so be sure it is secure!

The importance of your Homepage

Your online shop’s home page is the online equivalent of a storefront. You can use your home page to win over customers’ trust. You should therefore invest a great deal of effort in it.

Unfortunately, a lot of online merchants make the mistake of cluttering their home pages with too much information. Consequently, customers cannot find their way around and exit the site without making a purchase. You therefore should not cram all of your products into your home page. Instead, use your home page to set the stage for shopping. Large-scale, high-quality and topic-specific images on your home page enhance your entire online shop. Doing so also frees up space for you to promote certain products as discounted items.

You can also utilise your home page to draw attention to categories. You should use large-scale, topic-specific images here, too.

Make the most important elements easy to find

A field-proven rule for websites states that you should always place the most important items at the top of the screen – ideally, in the upper right. Users are accustomed to looking there for key information. The two most important things you should make clearly visible at the top of your online shop: a clearly portrayed shopping basket and the product-search function.

If you want to convert interested parties to customers, you must ensure that people in your shop always know which step they must take next to complete the purchase process. We recommend using colour or a large format to emphasize buttons which are essential to the buying process.

While you are selecting graphics for buttons, make sure you choose an icon set familiar to your customers. The symbol for “Add to shopping basket”, for example, should be instantly recognizable. Accepted methods of payment are also significant concerning the buying process. You should therefore prominently display the logos of all payment providers on every page.

In general, you should guide customers through your shop. A navigation bar and properly organised categories will help them to get oriented quickly. A “bread crumb trail” – in other words, showing the current menu item as a path – can also help customers.

Because users look first to the footer (the section at the bottom of a web page) if they want to find mandatory information –such as a site’s legal notice or links to contact options – you should place such information in the footer.

Accentuate your products
Use as many product photos as possible on product pages. Every single image helps turn interested visitors into paying customers. Often merchants will supply product images, but if you chose to take your own, make sure you use professionals or have the correct equipment, including a good lighting kit, otherwise items could look shabby rather than desirable. Products are typically photographed in front of a white background. We therefore generally recommend that you similarly use a white background for those sections of your online shop where you will present products. Images will thus fit in well with their surroundings.

Do not forget to add flourishes of colour to your online shop, perhaps in menus or the page elements, which appear near your products. Make sure that you choose colours which harmonise. Our Ecommerce package offers a colour manager precisely for this purpose; it suggests a suitable set of colours for any colour you select.

The colour manager in the Ecommerce programme is in the Design menu:
